Onsite Drug Screens and Screen Management

This video asserts that drug screens have a 5-10% false positive rate. One reason given is because of the list of drugs that "set them off" being so long. To a certain extent this information is correct but much of the validity of these statements is based on what the cutoff levels are for the screens being used. This is why onsite screens for various substances have their cutoff limits set quite high. Another reason the cutoffs are set high is because most agencies using these would not be using the services of a "Medical Review Officer" (MRO) so there would be no "middle man" taking...

Really Understanding Addiction

In this TED Talks video, Johann Hari explains what addiction is about and he brings basic questions to bear. Is there another way to handle these people rather than use of force, incarceration, and criminalization? Hari shows us there may be holes in the concept that doing drugs over time automatically leads to the body being dependent on doing more drugs. Curiously enough, not everyone who is prescribed drugs that could be abused actually becomes abusers. Johann explains that much of today's ideas come from Behavioral Conditioning experiments done decades ago. Professor Alexander built a "rat park" where rats had options for positive reinforcement and...

Long Term Effects of Marijuana

In this short video by Bobby Wiggins, a reformed addict, explains why marijuana may not be as innocent a drug as many people think it is. It does not mean that marijuana ranks up there with PCP or Heroin, but chronic use of any substance rewires the human system and causes that person to be less effective over time. This world is difficult enough for people as it is. There is no need to allow complacency to be rationalized as an excuse for today's experimentation to become tomorrow's addiction.

Drugs Staying in Your System

This video from Narconon is a valuable addition to your ability to understand, in "plainspeak" what happens to drugs within the person's bloodstream. It is very useful to hear from prior addicts in training resources. These people provide unique presentations where you learn from the material they have prepared to teach you but you also learn from the way they communicate. Too many people who have never "done drugs" make assumptions about what substance abusers are made of. They make assumptions these people are self-destructive and can never change and nothing can be further from the truth. While they will always be addicts, while the...

Conducting a 5 Panel Urine Screen

This is a fairly well done video on how to perform a 5 panel drug screen. It refers to itself as a "drug test" but it cannot be a drug test in so far as it doesn't "test" for anything if the term test refers to a conclusive determination of substances and their levels of concentration within the system. These types of "screens" are generally good if they are administered within a controlled system but they will only indicate drug metabolites in excess of a specific concentration in the urine. It does not mean there is none of the drug being checked for in...
